Baby names we like but won’t be using this time round

Lets talk baby names! When I was pregnant with Molly, We knew what her name was going to be from the get go. Before we even knew we were having a girl, her name was planned. This time round, we are struggling ever so slightly with choosing a name. I think because you have to find something that goes with the children you already have. Molly is quite a traditional name, and all the names I seem to love, are a little, out there. It may also be because we aren’t finding out the gender of the baby this time round, so we have to find a boys name and a girls name we like – the struggle is real with finding a baby name!

Middle names for if we have a boy are set in stone. Middle names for a girl – we still have no idea. We like to use family names in middle names, to have that connection – if that makes sense. So with Molly, her middle names are Ellen and Rose. Ellen was my Great Nan’s name and Rose is from Liam’s side of the family.  Louise is a very common middle name in my family, and Its the name of Liam’s cousin – so we might use that. But we also like Elizabeth, which is Liam’s Nan’s real name – We just honestly can’t decide!

We have however managed to create a long list of baby names we like but won’t be using for what ever reasons, so I thought I’d share them with you;

Oliver

We both really like the name Oliver. It’s a name that I’ve liked for a boy since I was younger. However, Oliver often gets shortened to Ollie, and I don’t think I can have a Molly and an Ollie. I feel that’s just a little too much!

Poppy

I think Poppy is such a pretty name. It was suggested to me when pregnant with Molly, but I felt that Poppy Pearson was just too many P’s! Plus, it wouldn’t help Molly’s current obsession with Trolls!!

Oscar

I love the name Oscar. But I know several people with Oscars, including my cousin. I don’t think we can have two Oscars in the family, what do you think?

Rosie

I suggested Rosie before our miscarriage back in May 2019. I felt it went well with Molly, was simple yet pretty. But Liam has a cousin, who although Rosie isn’t her real name, she uses it as if it were. So, that made that name a no go!

Theodore

I wanted this name for Molly if she were a boy. But sadly Liam doesn’t like the name. He feels it’s too popular and we know a lot of people with Theodore already. I mean, he’s not wrong, Molly’s best friend is a Theodore!!

Faye

Faye was the girls name we thought we loved and were set on this time round. We were 100% sure that Faye would be our girls name. But, the more we said it out loud, the more we fell out of love with it.

James

James is Liam’s middle name. It’s a name that we were going to use as a middle name if Molly was a boy. To be honest, I think if we have a boy this time round, it still may be used as a middle name!

Sydney

I first heard this name being used for a girl on the TV show Parenthood years ago. Liam’s Grandfather was a Sid, and sadly passed away 2 years ago. We thought it could be a lovely way to honor him, but after talking about it a little more, we felt it didn’t quite go with Molly.

Zachary

Zach was the boys name we had picked out when we were pregnant with Molly.  We had the full name completely picked out Part of me still loves it, but Liam isn’t so keen anymore. Plus, every time I say Molly and Zach, it just reminds me of Molly and Mack from Cbeebies!

Robyn

I love this name. To me it’s just so pretty and I love how it relates to nature. I knew a Robyn in school, but she was nice, so I am ok with it. Liam however doesn’t like it, he doesn’t have a reason as to why he doesn’t like it. He just doesn’t. Men!!

So there you have it. A list of names we like ( well maybe not all of them in Liam’s case ) but won’t be using for baby number 2. I have 5 weeks until my due date, with booked in sweep at 37 weeks, which is in 2 weeks. Part of me thinks we really need to settle on a name pretty soon!

What names do you love but wont be or didn’t use for your smalls?
