Molly’s 18 Month Update

Dear Molly,

My darling girl. You are 18 months old. I can’t believe i’m writing your 18 month update! That’s a whole year and a half we have been blessed with your presence. You are forever growing and changing.

YOUR 18 MONTH UPDATES:

Personality:

You are the funniest little things I’ve ever known. So full of determination and sass. You’re kind and caring and so full of love. All you want to do is be friends with everyone and hold their hand. You are strong willed and can be stubborn if you don’t want to do something. However, you flash that super cute smile and it’s like butter wouldn’t melt.

Five words I’d use to describe your personality are:
  • Clever
  • Loving
  • Playful
  • Sassy
  • Sociable
The face she pulls when you go “say cheese”!!

Size:

You are growing far too quickly. We no longer use disposable nappies with you, we now use cloth nappies. They are so much easier and you pick out what one you want to wear each time we change you. There’s no specific size as they are a one size fits all. Clothes however, you are flying through! You are currently already in your 1.5-2 year clothing and even wore a dress ages 2-4 because you’re so tall! You are currently in size 4 shoes but I don’t think it will be long until you’re in size 4.5 or even 5. I can’t believe how quickly you’re growing!

Health & Development:

Teeth, you have all your teeth. You got your first tooth at 4 months old and they just haven’t stopped coming in. Your last back ones gave you a little trouble, but you dealt with it so well. Everyone can’t believe you had all your teeth at 17 months old!

I can’t believe how much you have changed developmentally wise. You’re so cognitively aware of everything and everyone around you. Communication wise, you understand what we are saying when talking to you, and you listen to what everyone is saying.  You are much cleverer than you like to make out and you pick up things like a sponge. The other day you told the dogs off by pointing at Monty and shouting at him in you’re own little language. That is something you’ve picked up by watching us tell the dogs off.

Speech wise your vocabulary is incredible. You are learning new words and amazing us with your inelegance daily. I can’t even begin to list the words you can say, but the cutest one for me is when you want something. You’ll grab my hand, lead me to what you want and point to it. You’ll then sign “more” and say Please. It is the cutest thing ever! That along with when you say “blueberries”. My heart. I am so proud of how far your speech as just exploded. It’s so nice to be able to have proper little conversations with you. You can say colours, make animal noises, sing twinkle twinkle ( complete with actions ) as well as sing along to Let it go from frozen.

When we sing songs to you ( especially wind the bobbin up as well as head shoulders knees and toes ) you will do the actions with me. When we sing our clean up song, you clean up what we’ve been doing. Dancing to music before bed is one of your favourite things to do as well as story time. Your dad and I have been reading to you since you were tiny, but you now make a choice of what book you want to read, sit without fidgeting, turn the pages, point to things and really enjoy it. It’s so lovely to see!

Mobility wise, there is no stopping you. You have been walking since you were 11 months old. Now you can run, kind of skip, stomp your feet, sneaky stitch ( tip toes ) and are forever climbing things. You can go up and down the stairs safely and know to shut the gate after you. Walking in public is a breeze because even though you’ve your reins, you will insist on holding out hands at all times. Dancing is one of your favourite things to do. As soon as you hear music you’ve got your wiggle on.

I am probably jinxing things by saying this, fingers crossed I’m not. But, you’ve not been super poorly since you ended up in hospital with a chest infection at like 6/7 months old. You don’t get colds, you’ve yet to get a sickness bug. basically you’re all round pretty healthy and I will be forever grateful for that fact.

Feeding:

You eat 3 meals a day with a morning and afternoon snack. When you wake up you have a cup of tea. This happens every morning without fail. You’ve a specific cow patterned beaker that’s just for tea. Then a sippy cup with a straw that you drink water out of. We make it accessible to you at all times so you can drink throughout the day when you want to. Food wise, you are well and truly a fruit bat. Any fruit we have given you, you have loved! You still have a thing for Veggies, especially peas, broccoli and carrots. To be perfectly honest you eat whatever we eat. We eat the same meals and don’t adapt them in anyway for you. You have always loved food and we’ve been lucky that you’ve not been a fussy eater.

Sleep:

You have been sleeping through the night wonderfully for a while now. We still co-sleep and I’m totally ok with that. You go to bed at around 7/7.30 and you don’t wake up until 7-8am. You have only one nap during that day and this varies depending on what we are doing. if we are staying at home, you’ll nap from 10.30-12 ish. If we go out, its almost guaranteed you’ll fall asleep in the car!
