Homemade Cashew Butter Recipe

All you need is 4-6 cups of nuts, an oven, and 15 minutes in the food processor to make the easiest, creamy Homemade Cashew Butter. You won’t believe how simple it is! I had been researching a few nut butter recipes and I honestly couldn’t believe how easy it is. I finally just bought enough nuts to give it a go myself. AND, I was actually still semi-skeptical. But after my first batch, I basically wanted to bathe in it and eat it for every meal.

I started with raw organic cashews and lightly toasted them myself. You spread the cashews on a baking tray evenly and toast them at around 100 degrees (fan) for about 15 minutes, or until just lightly golden. I suggest watching after 10 minutes just to be sure they don’t get too dark or catch.

Let the cashews cool a little on the baking tray, for about 10 minutes. Then add to the bowl of your food processor and start grinding away.

After 2-3 minutes of grinding, It doesn’t look like much, but don’t worry, just keep going.  After 7 minutes or so you may have to scrape down the sides of the bowl every few minutes, depending on the size of your food processor to make sure it continues to blitz. Molly loved helping out. She got all excited when I would scrape down the sides, and get all kicky feet, until I gave her back the spoon and let her turn the processor on.

Be Patient…

It can take up to 15 mins for it to become creamy. DO NOT be tempted to add any water or oils to help thicken it. Be patient with it and then like magic this smooth goodness happens out of nowhere and it is amazing! Its at this point you can add flavours of you want. Sea salt, vanilla, chocolate ect. Experiment and find what you like.

Molly was a great little helper. Every time we scooped some into a jar she demanded a taste. After every taste she would go “mmmmm” and rub her tummy – toddler approves! Once you have your finished nut butter, store it in an air tight container or jar and keep in the fridge for up to one month! .

You can experiment using different nuts, and even mixing them up. The fattier ones the better as they release more natural oil when roasted, resulting in a creamier texture.
