Our After Lockdown Bucket List

It seems that everyone and their cat has made a “After Lockdown Bucket List”… and I am about to join them! It’s been no secret that everyone has struggled during lockdown at some point in one way or another. Myself included. I have struggled bringing a baby into the world smack bang in the middle of it all when it was at its worst. Not being able to spend my maternity leave quite how I had envisioned it, or do all the things that we wanted to do as a family during this time. So, with that in mind, and restrictions slowly being lifted, I thought it would be the perfect time to create a little lockdown bucket list of things we would like to do.

1. Visit family

I am a very family-oriented person. Like, family means everything to me. Not being able to see my grandparents, or my mum, my siblings has been awful. Even more so because none of them have been able to meet Evelyn. My mum and siblings live in Somerset, and my Grandparents are extremely high risk, so they have been completely shielded for their own protection. They would have completely missed the newborn stage by the time we are allowed to go a visit and it really does break my heart into a million pieces. It just means that when they get to meet, it’ll be ten times more special – and probably emotional AF.

2. Visit Friends

I miss the play dates. The fun days out and meeting for coffees. I miss hanging out at the theatre, going to parks and garden centres. I miss going on road trips to see friends further afield. Lockdown has certainly made me appreciate and love my nearest and dearest so much more. Two of my best friends have had their first babies, and another is about to pop with her second ( shout out to Caitylis!)  all within months of each other. I want to visit them, and squish their tiny newborns and tell them over and over how incredibly proud I am of them. I want our babies to meet, and for us to do fun things together. God help me when I get to meet their babies, because I will be an emotional wreck!

3. Go to Soft Play

You read that right. Go to Soft play. I will hold my head high and scream at the top of my lungs for the world to hear I MISS SOFT PLAY!! So it definitely had to make the after lockdown bucket list. I think Molly has missed soft play more than any of us. She has missed the interaction with other children, and the ability to run around and play. I will never take a soft play day for granted ever, EVER again.

4.Go on a date night with Liam

We don’t go on many date nights. We were supposed to go for one before Evelyn arrived, but due to lockdown, it never happened. So, we need a child free date night. Dinner and possibly a show (praying to the god of the arts that theatres survive all of this) as we love to see a good show. We need that little bit of us time, because when you have a toddler and a newborn – there is never any alone time!

5. Go fruit picking

We have been fruit picking the last 2 years with Molly. It has become one of our favourite things to do. It is now open again, but with a time slot system in place – can we get a time slot for a day Liam is off work? Nope. I keep checking back every day, but I don’t hold out much hope! Hopefully we can, if not, Molly will just have to wait until the allotment is up and running!

6.  Take The girls swimming

Molly has asked to go swimming multiple times during lockdown and it breaks my heart every time. She is a water baby. We took get to the spectrum once and she LOVED it. We were hoping to take her back there once Evelyn arrived, but sadly it hasn’t happened. Can’t wait for when we are able to though, we want to take the girls swimming, then have a game of bowling! Molly also has big enough feet to go ice skating too, and now I’m not pregnant, I can go on the ice with her!

7. Visit the beach

Another item that has to go onto the after lockdown bucket list. We didn’t make it to the beach last summer because morning sickness was kicking my ass. So we said that once Evelyn arrived, we would go several times to different ones. However, Covid had other plans. Molly likes to collect pebbles and shells and she loves playing in the sandpit at home, so I KNOW she would love building sandcastles on the beach. I miss the sea so much, the salty smelling air and cool sea breeze – get me to a beach now please!

8. Go to Chessington World of Adventures

If you have followed us for a while you will know we have Merlin AP and go to Chessington a lot! Sometimes twice in one week a lot. It’s one of our favourite places. We were invited and due to go to the launch of their newly developed land, but sadly that got cancelled. The zoo is now open, and we are itching to go! The rides etc. open 4th July, and we are already looking at booking to take the girls. Liam and I also want to go to Thorpe park again for a date day – fingers crossed!

9. Lockdown Bucket List: Go find the Gruffalo

Alice Holt has been on my to do list for a while now. They have a Gruffalo woodland trail that we think Molly would really enjoy. Who doesn’t love the Gruffalo?! Now that we can travel to do outdoor activities, this is a lot more likely to happen!

10. Finally visit the Eden Project in Cornwall

Oh Eden Project. I was invited to visit last summer, but due to morning sickness with Evelyn I could make to trip down to Cornwall. We re-arranged it for this summer and had it all planned out. Then that got canceled too! Hopefully we can visit and collaborate towards the end of the summer/early Autumn! Just have to wait for hotels to re open! I can’t wait to visit, it is bloody beautiful!

11. Walk around Wisley and have a picnic

We visited Wisley last year with my friend Becky and had a wonderful time. We planned to re-visit this year once Becky and I had had our babies. Wisley has such beautiful gardens, normally with shows and event all year round. I can’t wait for it to open up again so we can have a day out with a mass picnic!

12. Have lunch out with my Grandparents

We love to take my Nan to a garden centre for a mooch around and a spot of munch. It’s one of our favourite things to do with her. Can’t wait to be able to do it again. We have said that we want to so even more with the Grandparents once this is over. Going onto the lockdown bucket list: all the garden centre visits!

13. Plan a Girls’ trip!

There are a group of us blogging girls that are in a group chat, and we have decided to try and meet up once this is all over. We really want to head into London completely child free, We want to have dinner, some cheeky cocktails and to see a West End Show. We want to stay in a hotel for the night and then have the mother of all breakfasts, and maybe a bit of shopping before parting ways. These girls are my rocks, and it sucks we live so far away. More meet-ups will be happening – I can assure you!

14. Take the girls to Cbeebies Land & Peppa Pig World

Last Summer we visited Alton towers with Caitylis and her tribe. The queues for Cbeebies land rides were a joke! over an hour. How do you expect a toddler to stand in a queue for over an hour?! This year we want to go off peak, during the week. we will stay in the same hotel as we did before which is a short drive to Alton towers, with possibly doing a night or two in the Cbeebies Hotel!

We were kindly invited by Paulton’s park to visit Peppa Pig this summer, but it was obviously canceled. Hopefully we can head there this season, but may have to put it off until next year. Molly has an obsession with Peppa Pig, and knows all the characters and songs. So I’m determined to take her one way or another!

15. Be able to take Molly to the playground

We have a playground near us. It’s right next to the woodland where we have been talking our daily walks. Molly asks for the swings and slide every time, and there have even been tears because it’s closed with a huge padlock on it. Our girl just wants to go on the swings and the slide and run wild. I can’t wait for the say we can finally take her in there so she can really play.

16. Go on big family outings

I want to take my Nan and Grandad to go visit my family in Somerset, and have a big day out with my Mum, Stepdad, my Brother, my Sister and her boyfriend, and then my other Sister and her family. I want to go to Lyme Regis and have the mother of days out.

With Liam’s Mum’s side. Get his Parents, Grandparents, his Brother & girlfriend, Cousins, Aunts, Uncles…Everyone! Go and do something fun. Then On his Dad’s side we have Liam’s Nan, we really want to get his Parents, Brother & girlfriend to go and do something. Maybe go to Bexhill for the day!

I just want to spend time together after all this time apart. The girls have missed seeing everyone so much. Heck, at this moment in time, Evelyn hasn’t met any of them!

17. Have weekly trips to the library

We started to do this right before lockdown hit. Molly loved looking at all the different books. We were there for a good hour at times and she would pick a book, take it to the beanbags and sit and read it. My little book worm!

18. For everyone to have decent haircuts!

It’s no lie that 95% of the UK population need a trip to the hairdressers. Unless they have been brave and attempted them at home and it has gone well!! I managed to trim Molly’s bangs without it going wrong. Thank the Lord! But I am in serious need of a hair cut, as is Liam. My hair is now past my boobs and it hasn’t been this long since I was 15…which was 14 years ago! I am hoping that I can donate it when I finally get it cut.

19. Run through the lavender fields with Molly

Myself and Molly went to the lavender fields last year and we had a blast! One of my favourite Molly and Mama days out. I can’t wait for the 4 of us to go together. I learnt from last time and won’t be taking the buggy – that thing was a b**ch to lug around.

20.  Explore National trust places again

Number 20 on the after lockdown bucket list… We are super happy that National Trust places are now starting to re-open. It means we can go and visit, have days out again. Just being able to visit a few different places is just the best feeling ever!

There you have it. 20 things that I can’t wait to do when all of this is over to the point we can start doing things again. What will you do once Lockdown is over?

Some really lovely ideas, it’s the simple things like playgrounds and swimming I miss the most. Just being able to do the things that bring Emilia so much joy. Hopefully it won’t be long before we can start to do some of them again xx
