Second hand September with Oxfam UK

Second hand September with Oxfam UK

Now, It’s no lie that we are Charity shop lovers. We regularly hit the charity shops to see what bargains and gems we can find. From clothing, to books, toys for Molly to even furniture – we love it all! My very first flat was furnished with all second hand items. Even Molly first Christmas and Birthday gifts were mainly from charity shops or Facebook selling groups. There is nothing wrong with second hand items, and buying second hand can actually help the planet.

You may or may not have heard that Oxfam UK are doing #SecondHandSeptember. This is an initiative from Oxfam to encourage people to buy second hand rather than new for the entirety of September.  It doesn’t have to be from an Oxfam Charity shop. It can be any charity shop, Facebook groups, Depop, Instagram Preloved accounts, eBay, car boot sales, even a jumble sale. The whole point is to get us to move away from fast fashion and think about how our habits are affecting the environment. Could you take the pledge? Check out the hashtag #secondhandseptember for second hand inspiration and don’t forget to use it yourself so everyone taking part can see your posts!

Every week 11 million items of clothing end up in landfill. Throwaway fashion is putting increasing pressure on our planet and its people – it’s unsustainable. Now there’s something you can do to help. Join Second Hand September and pledge to say no to new clothes for 30 days.

I have lots of Eco friendly related content planned during the month of September. I will not only be updating you with my second hand finds over on Instagram. but I have teamed up with a few beautiful humans – Nia and Emma, to bring you simple swaps and tips to living a more sustainable lifestyle. Follow and use #simplysustainability over on Instagram to follow along and show what swaps/changes you’ve made!

We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly. – Anne-Marie Bonneau
