Scotland Trip Day 5 + 6

The Wedding & Glasgow Christmas Market

It’s the day I finally get to see two of my dearest friends get married. We couldn’t have been more excited or honored to be a part of their special day.The day started off rather nicely. We had our first lay in of the week with coffee/breakfast in bed. Just a really chilled, slow morning getting ourselves ready. We booked a cab to the church. It wasn’t until we were in the cab that we realised we didn’t have transport from the church to the reception venue. Traveling by train meant we didn’t have Molly’s car seat, just a rather large buggy!

When we arrived at the church we were the first ones there. The wedding driver arrived and took a photo for us after witnessing us trying to take a selfie and failing!

We were met by two of m friends from Disney who I haven’t seen since I left 3 years ago. It was so lovely to see them after so long. We hung around outside the church for a little bit waiting for more people to arrive before heading in. With it being a Scottish wedding, there was a bagpipe being played as you walked into the church. We had a little chat with the groom, Neil before taking our seats.

Trust Molly to spot the photographer!

The ceremony was lovely and Christy looked stunning, a truly beautiful bride.  I shed a tear or two of happiness whilst Molly was happy to have some serious chats during the most quiet parts of the ceremony. So loud in fact that others around us started to laugh. Super awkward and embarrassing when the vows are being said and ts silent!

Some Scottish wedding ceremonies reinstate traditional methods of binding the couple together in matrimony.  Its a centuries-old practice of tying their hands together in an act called handfasting. Dating back to medieval times, and originally a Celtic (pagan) custom of betrothal, it became commonly adopted as a legal marriage in the Tudor era, when it did in fact constitute the entire legal wedding ceremony. It was a lovely moment of Neils mum carrying out the tying whilst Christy’s mum read out a reading.

We love these two

After the ceremony we had to work out how to get to the reception venue. There were no wheelchair accessible cabs locally for at least 2-3 hours. We were going to walk it , but the wedding driver kindly said he would take us. True gent! We were very grateful as it started to piss it down! Once we arrived at the reception venue we were handed a much appreciated glass of bubbly!

The evening was thoroughly enjoined. The food was incredible. We had a Vegan option and the desert was coconut ice cream with a gin liqueur syrup. Oh.My.Word. The evening entertainment was a Scottish band and the evening was full of love laughter and a whole lot of dancing! Oh, and Mickey ears! I don’t have many photos of the evening as it was spent dancing to traditional Scottish dances we’d never danced before!! I’ve not laughed so much in ages.

Towards the end of the night, Liam and I got Neil and Christy together, and asked them if they wanted to be Guide parents to Molly. Guide Parents is the non religious equivalent to Godparents. They very quickly said yes and I could have cried with happiness. I have so much love and respect for these two, and the love they have towards Molly is something else.

Day 6

Sunday fun day! The morning after the night before! To be honest, Liam and I didn’t really drink and we were back at the hotel and in bed before midnight. Oh what party animals we are! The morning was a slow one before heading into town to meet people from the wedding. We went to a Weatherspoons in Glasgow that’s in an old bank. It has to be one of the most beautiful Weatherspoons I’ve ever seen. The ceiling was just something else. It was however, completely rammed due to a football game. Neil manged to find a little room which was empty for us to all sit in. The room was basically an old volt, but they have turned them into extra seating areas. So cool! We spent the afternoon eating and drinking, talking about anything and everything before heading over the road to the Christmas Market.

Glasgow Christmas Market was very similar to Edinburgh market, just a lot smaller. Full of food and drink stands with a few selling things like clothing, jewelry or sweet treats. We had a little look around before heading our separate ways. I’ve really loved seeing friends who I haven’t seen in years, making new friends and celebrating the wedding of two incredibly amazing people. I’ll forever be greatful for their friendships, and the love they all have for Molly.
